EU allocates another 6.1 billion euros for Ukraine's defense

The European Union has agreed to provide an additional €6.1 billion to Ukraine to strengthen its defense capabilities.

The funds, approved by the European Commission on August 24, will be used to purchase new defense equipment such as air defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars.

The new package is in addition to the previously approved €16 billion procurement plan. To date, €8.35 billion of these funds have been delivered to Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe will continue to help Ukraine defend its territory and people as Russia steps up its attacks.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiu said that Germany has provided more than €65 billion in aid to Kiev since the start of Russia's large-scale offensive.

According to him, Berlin remains one of the largest partners in Ukraine's security, defense industry development, and post-war reconstruction.

Sibiga also noted that Germany was the first country to establish a joint production facility specializing in the defense sector on the territory of Ukraine.
