Elon Musk's company may build an underground transport network in Abu Dhabi
The Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) has signed an agreement with the American company The Boring Company. Founded by Elon Musk, this company specializes in advanced tunneling technologies and infrastructure construction.
The document was signed within the framework of the Liveability and Investment Exhibition - LIVEX 2026 held in Abu Dhabi. It was signed by Engineer Maysarah Mahmoud Salim Eid, Director General of the Center, on behalf of ADPIC, and Steve Davis, President of the company, on behalf of The Boring Company.
As part of the cooperation, the parties will study the possibilities of creating underground transport systems, tunnels for utility communications, and other related infrastructure facilities in the emirate.
It is estimated that such solutions could improve transport connectivity between regions, increase the reliability of urban infrastructure systems, and contribute to the sustainable development of Abu Dhabi.
In analyzing the feasibility of implementing the projects, it is planned to utilize international experience and global best practices. This will also cover issues of how to build the tunnels, how to operate the completed facilities, and how to manage them.
At the same time, the parties intend to assist in developing the knowledge and skills of local specialists. The prospects of turning Abu Dhabi into a regional hub for advanced tunneling technologies and underground infrastructure construction will also be explored.
The agreement envisions technical and strategic consultations on underground transport, utility tunnels, and adjacent infrastructure.
Specialists will exchange experience in tunnel planning, the application of modern tunneling technologies, construction methods, and safety standards. Additionally, facility operation, maintenance, digital design, automation, and infrastructure management throughout its entire service life are included among the areas of cooperation.
Earlier, The Boring Company received permission to build the "Dubai Loop" project. According to the plan, a 17-kilometer tunnel system will connect the busiest areas of Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates.
