**Elon Musk Warns of Human Extinction**
American billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has warned that humanity is at risk of extinction due to a declining birth rate.
"Humanity is disappearing," Musk wrote on his X social media page.
He made the comment in response to a post by X user Freeze about Singapore's birth rate. According to the post's author, the country's birth rate will drop to a record low of 0.87 in 2025.
The post also describes the measures the Singaporean government is taking to encourage births. In particular, the country's authorities are providing financial assistance to families, extending parental leave, increasing housing opportunities, and subsidizing childcare.
In early August, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced new payments, extended leave and additional housing benefits in response to a record low birth rate.
Every Singaporean child under the age of 17 will now be eligible for a total of nearly S$70,000 (about US$55,000) in family support measures. This includes cash payments, education grants and other measures.
The leave period for working parents will be extended: up to 8 days for one child under 12 years of age, 10 days for two children and 12 days for three or more children. The cost of subsidized childcare will be reduced to S$150 per month. Families with children will also receive additional benefits in the allocation of public housing.
The new measures were adopted against the backdrop of a worsening demographic situation. In 2025, Singapore's total fertility rate fell to a record low of 0.87. At the same time, by 2026, about a fifth of the country's population could be aged 65 and over. In April, Eurostat predicted that by 2100, Europe's population would decline by 11.7 percent, or 53 million people.
In April, during a court hearing with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, Musk said that the uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence could also lead to the destruction of humanity. The Tesla and SpaceX boss has argued that AI has both the potential to destroy humanity and the potential to become its greatest weapon.
"It could kill us all. We don't want it to end like 'Terminator', but like Gene Roddenberry's 'Star Trek'," the billionaire said.
It was previously reported that Musk's SpaceX IPO could see his fortune surpass $1 trillion. According to estimates, after the initial public offering of SpaceX shares is completed, Musk's stake in the company will be valued at about $866 billion. Including Tesla and other assets, his total wealth could exceed $1.1 trillion.
