Trump has adopted a combative stance toward the White House press corps since returning to office last year.
US President Donald Trump said he is "immediately" banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, marking the latest development in his strained relationship with American media organizations.
In a long Truth Social post on Friday, Trump said the outlets "constantly write or report fiction or lies" about his administration, though he gave no examples.
It is not clear what a ban would specifically mean, or whether staff from those outlets would be barred from entering White House grounds.
The decision is likely to face legal challenges from the affected outlets and press freedom groups.
Reporters from both Politico and CNN were still on White House grounds shortly after the announcement.
"Media outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when covering they're covering the President of the United States, the trump administration or the United States of America," Trump wrote.
The post did not cite any particular stories or reporting that prompted the move.
Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump and administration officials have repeatedly come into conflict with members of the White House press corps.
In February that year, the White House said it was reclaiming control of the press pool that has access to Trump and had been managed for more than a century by the White House Correspondent's Association.
That same month, the administration also moved to block Associated Press reporters and photographers from restricted-access areas such as the Oval Office and Air Force One, because the outlet used the term "Gulf of Mexico" rather than "Gulf of America".
The president frequently clashes with reporters in the Oval Office and on Air Force One, often calling them "fake news" and "rude".
The Associated Press quickly filed a lawsuit, and the case is still ongoing.
Trump has taken legal action against several US and international news organizations, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and the BBC.
The BBC has reached out to the White House for comment on Trump's announcement.
