Death toll from Nepal floods rises to 538
The death toll from Nepal's floods has risen to 538. Nearly 1,000 people are still missing, including 517 foreigners.
The death toll from the floods in Nepal has reached 538, with 977 people missing, Ratopati reported, citing a report by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal.
Among the missing are 517 foreign nationals. Also, 73 people were injured, 3,742 people were rescued. 15,000 personnel of the Nepalese army, police and armed police were involved in the search and rescue operations.
The floods began on the morning of August 26 on the border of Nepal and Tibet. According to preliminary information, an avalanche of ice and rocks fell on the Lende Khola River. As a result, a powerful mudflow of mud, rocks and water occurred. The natural disaster damaged houses, roads, bridges and energy infrastructure facilities.
Chinese media reported that five people had died and 558 were missing in the floods in Tibet.
The Uzbek embassy in New Delhi, which also covers Nepal, had earlier said that it had not received any information about Uzbek citizens among the dead or injured in the floods.
