Damage being assessed after 'significant' Killarney flash floods
The council said some 30mm of rain fell in one hour alone, causing very "significant flooding on roads throughout the town".
Killarney is evaluating the extent of damage following "significant" flash floods that inundated parts of the town.
Approximately 57mm of rain deluged the County Kerry town over a four-hour span, prompting the fire service to deploy pumps to clear a road of standing water. Kerry County Council teams are currently assessing the aftermath of Thursday evening's flooding in Killarney.
Council personnel, the Kerry Fire Service, and the Kerry Civil Defence responded to the incident around 7:00 PM local time. The council reported that roughly 30mm of rain fell within a single hour, leading to "very significant flooding on roads throughout the town," rendering many temporarily impassable.
Kerry County Council stated it is in communication with affected properties and will offer necessary assistance. The Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre will be closed for the weekend and until further notice due to flood damage and the requirement for a comprehensive assessment.
