Crash involving coach carrying German students injures 16
Eight people, including the driver of a delivery van, are seriously hurt, police say.
Sixteen individuals sustained injuries when a bus transporting German high school students was involved in a collision with a delivery van in the eastern Netherlands, according to Dutch police.
The coach reportedly struck the delivery van, then broke through a guardrail, and subsequently tipped onto its side.
Eight people, including the driver of the van, suffered serious injuries, while the remaining individuals sustained minor injuries, as stated by the Gelderland region's police department. All injured parties were transported to the hospital.
The incident, which occurred near Wezep, east of Amsterdam, is currently under investigation to determine its cause. The exact number of students among the injured is not yet known.
The coach was carrying over 50 students and four teachers from a school in Schönberg, a town in northern Germany, en route to Paris, as detailed on the school's website. The students were from two 12th-grade classes, typically comprising individuals aged 17 to 18.
The school confirmed that no life-threatening injuries had been reported and that all those involved were receiving thorough medical attention.
Police reported receiving notification of a serious accident on the A28 near Wezep at approximately 04:20 local time (02:20 GMT) on Monday.
Dutch and German media, citing local police, reported that the coach collided with a delivery van, then crashed through the guardrail, and ultimately overturned onto its side.
The A28 highway remains closed in both directions following the accident.
