Construction of BRT lines planned in 4 more sections in Tashkent
Tashkent khokimiyat announced plans to continue the policy of giving up cars and build BRT lines on four more sections. These are Muqimiy, Qoratosh and Ko'kcha Darvoza, Parkent, and Mirzo Ulug'bek streets (where trams previously ran). Currently, a BRT is being constructed on Shahrisabz Street.

BRT lines planned to be built on 4 more sections in Tashkent
Tashkent City Khokimiyat announced that work will continue to “increase the priority of public transport movement and implement the policy of abandoning cars.”
As part of this policy, dedicated bus lanes (BRT type) along the middle of the streets are planned to be constructed on four more sections with a total length of 17.9 km.
It is worth noting that trams previously operated on these sections. It was closed at the beginning of May 2016.
According to the report, experts analyzed street sections with a total length of over 150 km where public transport routes pass, and selected these specific routes.
“The main goal of the project is to make public transport fast, comfortable, safe, and popular so that taking the bus becomes an attractive alternative to a private car. This corresponds to the strategy of the Traffic Management Center and the direction of reducing the city's dependence on private motor transport,” the report says.
The decision of the capital's khokim has already been signed, and the budget is currently being formed to develop project documentation. According to preliminary estimates, about 6.5 billion UZS will be needed for these purposes. It is planned to cover the expenses from the funds of the Tashkent Development Fund, the khokimiyat noted.
The customer for the projects will be “Tashkent Invest Company”. Project organizations, contractors, and technical supervision service providers will be determined on a competitive basis in accordance with the procedure established by law, the khokimiyat report states.
Engineering communications and utility infrastructure networks will be inspected before construction work begins. If malfunctions are detected, the networks will be repaired, relocated, or replaced.
“The requirements for the project include comfortable pedestrian routes, quality road signs, bus stop complexes, and a lighting system. Particular attention will be paid to the quality of the road surface. The requirement remains unchanged: the use of polymer-modified bitumen and a stone mastic asphalt concrete mix made from durable crushed rock. This coating has proven itself well in the climate conditions of the capital since 2023.”
The khokimiyat promised the population “to provide transparent information about the planned changes and each stage of the project.”
Currently, a BRT line is being built along Shahrisabz Street (3.2 km) — this is a continuation of the line on Shota Rustaveli Street (6.5 km). Later, it will continue along Amir Temur Avenue (7.6 km) and Yangi Sergeli Street (5.5 km). The khokimiyat presented this project in April.
