The first part (1.2 km) of the BRT section along Shakhrisabz Street should open by September 1

The first section (1.2 km) of the BRT line along Shakhrisabz Street in Tashkent is scheduled to open by the end of August. The line will be separated by curbs. The Traffic Management Center explained the lengthy construction period as a result of the complete reconstruction of the roadway base to a depth of up to 2 meters to support heavy buses.

The first phase of construction of a 1.2-kilometer-long dedicated bus rapid transit (BRT) lane on Shakhrisabz Street in Tashkent is scheduled to be completed by September 1, according to the city's Traffic Management Center (TMC).

This section of the BRT will extend from the roundabout of Shakhrisabz, Mirabad, and Shota Rustaveli Streets to the intersection with Amir Temur Avenue (near the Art Museum). The next phase of the project will cover the remaining section of Shakhrisabz Street to the second intersection with Amir Temur Avenue (Wyndham Hotel), from where the line will extend toward Yunusabad.

Work on the first phase, which began on July 24, was originally scheduled for completion by the first week of August. The TMC explained the extended deadline by the need for a complete reconstruction of the roadway base.

The TsODD statement emphasized that "given the regular use of large, heavy buses on the BRT lane, special attention is being paid to ensuring the durability of the road structure. To this end, the road surface is being excavated to a depth of over 2 meters, after which the base is being rebuilt."

The new base structure is designed to prevent moisture accumulation under the road surface and minimize the risk of soil displacement and subsidence. A permeable geotextile material is placed between the layers of the road structure, which helps maintain the specified structure and thickness of the layers, increasing the stability of the base.

The first BRT section is planned to include six bus stop platforms. The lane will be physically separated by curbs to prevent other vehicles from entering.

In 2025, Uzbekistan launched the first section of a dedicated bus lane along the center of Shota Rustaveli Street, extending approximately 7 km.

This line will now be extended along Shakhrisabz and Amir Temur Streets, and along Yangi Sergeli Street on the opposite side. The total length of this BRT corridor will be 16.3 km. The Khokimiyat presented the project in April.
