Chinese hybrid sedan sets world record by traveling 2916 km

The flagship Hongqi H7 sedan with a hybrid powertrain traveled 2916.171 km on a single full battery charge and a single tank of fuel. This result was officially recorded by representatives of the Guinness World Records.

Known as the Hongqi H7 EREV, it belongs to the category of vehicles with an extended-range electric powertrain. Unlike conventional hybrids, in such a system, the gasoline engine acts solely as a generator to charge the traction battery, while the vehicle's movement is provided by the electric powertrain.

The Hongqi H7 is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Its thermal efficiency reaches 45.21%, which is one of the highest indicators among production engines. Two types of battery packs are offered to buyers — ternary lithium and LFP. The range on electric power alone is 240 km, and once the battery is depleted, the fuel consumption in mixed mode is 4.4 liters per 100 km.

The previous record belonged to the Geely Galaxy A7 EM sedan, which traveled just over 2600 km. The Hongqi H7 surpassed this figure by more than 300 km.

At the same time, the recorded results were obtained according to China's CLTC cycle, which typically shows a higher range than the stricter American EPA standard. According to calculations, when recalculated using a more conservative method, the range of the Hongqi H7 would be approximately 1900 km, which is still considered a very high result.

This achievement of the Hongqi H7 demonstrates the potential of EREVs as an intermediate solution between electric vehicles and traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. This format combines the capability of long-distance travel on electric power with an additional range provided by a gasoline generator, reducing dependence on the network of fast-charging stations.
