Catherine Zeta-Jones praised by fans for using Welsh accent in TV series
The Hollywood actress is starring in a new thriller series using her natural Swansea accent.
Catherine Zeta-Jones has been applauded by fans for speaking in her natural Welsh accent in an upcoming TV thriller series.
This will be Zeta-Jones’s first major screen role in which she uses a Welsh accent.
The 56-year-old Hollywood actor returned to her hometown of Swansea, where part of the filming for Amazon’s Kill Jackie took place.
A trailer shared on social media offers viewers their first look at the series, along with a clip of Zeta-Jones speaking with her Swansea accent.
According to Amazon Prime, the Oscar-winning star plays Jackie Price, an extravagant jet-setter trying to remain anonymous after fleeing a “dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer.”
One fan said they loved hearing the “queen of Wales sounding Welsh”.
The series is adapted from the novel The Price You Pay by Nick Harkaway, which was published under his pseudonym Aidan Truhen.
Bilbao, Lisbon and London were also used as filming locations.
Zeta-Jones is known for a range of earlier roles, including Morticia Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday and an Oscar-winning supporting performance in Chicago.
Kill Jackie will be her first major role using her Welsh accent.
She has previously spoken about her deep connection to Wales, adding that in her heart she “never really left”.
One fan commented on an Instagram post of the trailer, saying “her Welsh is out and I love it, can’t wait”.
Zeta-Jones said she had been looking forward to the chance to explore a female-led plot that “encompasses empowerment, identity and redemption”.
Damon Thomas, of Killing Eve, also stars in the show, while Gangs Of London’s Tom Butterworth is the writer and showrunner.
Kill Jackie will premiere on 2 October on Amazon Prime.
