Canadian boxing legend has passed away: he was never knocked down during his career

Canadian George Chuvalo, a two-time world heavyweight boxing championship challenger, has died at the age of 89. This was announced by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Chuvalo passed away on September 12 — on his actual birthday. The cause of his death was not disclosed.

The boxer began his professional ring career in 1956 and became a five-time Canadian heavyweight champion. He had 73 wins (64 by knockout), 18 losses, and 2 draws to his credit. The Canadian was never knocked down once during his 93-fight career.

Chuvalo fought for the World Championship twice. He lost to American Ernie Terrell in 1965, and to Muhammad Ali in 1966. The Canadian boxer stepped into the ring with Ali once more in 1972. In both fights, he lost by unanimous decision. Ali later called his Canadian opponent "the toughest guy I ever fought."

Chuvalo also stepped into the ring against legendary American boxers George Foreman and Joe Frazier.
