BYD Uzbekistan Factory and BYD Astana Motors Uzbekistan, with the support of the brand's distributor BYD Central Asia, organized a tour of the BYD plant in Jizzakh for clients and media as part of the "BYD. Made in Uzbekistan" project. Participants were shown the engineering school, automotive production, and the operation of dealership centers.

The BYD Uzbekistan Factory enterprise in the Jizzakh region produces electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles using robotic equipment and multi-stage quality control. The plant covers 27 hectares, its capacity reaches 50 thousand vehicles per year, and the investment volume amounted to 160 million dollars.

BYD Uzbekistan Factory is a joint venture between Uzavtosanoat and the Chinese company BYD. The Uzbek side holds 51%, and the Chinese side holds 49%.

Currently, the plant produces three models — Song Plus, Chazor, and Yuan Up. In 2024, the enterprise produced 4,004 vehicles, and in 2025 — more than 20 thousand. In 2026, production is planned to increase to 40 thousand vehicles.

Where are personnel trained?

The acquaintance with the plant began with a visit to the training center established on the basis of the Tashkent Polytechnic University. Anyone interested can study here, including students who want to work at the plant in the future.

In addition, other specialists undergo training here and are subsequently sent to plants abroad. The theoretical course includes vehicle and electric vehicle design, post-engineering, reverse engineering, industrial engineering, IT programming for production, as well as quality management.

Specialists in robotics, CATIA engineers, plumbers, and representatives of other professions are also trained here.

The training period ranges from two to three months depending on the specialty. The training center is equipped with modern equipment, including simulator robots.

From body welding to the finished vehicle

The production process consists of four main stages: body welding, painting, assembly, and final quality control.

The welding shop can produce up to 50 thousand bodies annually. Here, 4,528 welding spots are performed, using 61 KUKA robots, 200 welding jigs, and 297 modern welding machines.

At the same time, 69% of welding operations are performed manually, and 31% — automatically. The side panels and roof of the Song Plus body are joined using high-precision laser welding. The quality of the weld seams is checked using an ultrasonic method. Note that the bodies of all BYD models are galvanized.

A separate side panel welding section occupies 4 thousand square meters. Its capacity is 50 thousand sets of panels per year. 8 million dollars were invested in its equipment.

After welding, the body undergoes geometry verification. The measurement laboratory uses a Hexagon coordinate measuring machine, which checks more than 2 thousand control points with an accuracy of up to 20 microns.

In addition, a Hexagon 3D laser scanner combined with a FANUC robot allows scanning 90 types of body parts in one hour and comparing them with a three-dimensional model.

Painting and assembly

The painting shop, with an area of 7,800 square meters, is designed for 50 thousand bodies per year. The project cost was 29 million dollars.

Here, the body goes through several stages of treatment: anti-corrosion protection, sealing, application of primer, base color, and a two-component lacquer coating. 10 ABB robots are installed in the shop.

After painting, the bodies go to the assembly line with an area of 16 thousand square meters. Its production capacity is also 50 thousand vehicles per year.

Assembly is divided into three main stages — Trim, Chassis, and Final. The production rhythm is approximately one vehicle every five minutes.

For movement, 21 AGV automatic systems, robots, and manipulators are used. Painted bodies are stored in an automated two-level warehouse with a capacity of up to 70 bodies. This stock is enough to keep the assembly line running for about six hours even during a temporary shutdown of the painting shop.

How finished vehicles are tested

After assembly, the vehicle undergoes final control. Specialists check wheel alignment, the braking system, headlight adjustment, and the operation of ADAS systems.

Then the vehicle is sent to a rain chamber, where the body is exposed to high-pressure water for five minutes. This allows checking for leaks.

After this, the vehicles undergo testing on a test track under various road conditions.

Localization: from components to new production facilities

One of the key directions of the plant's development is increasing the share of local components.

In 2025, 72 types of components were localized for the Song Plus. Among them are seats, plastic fuel tanks, chassis parts, glass, bumpers, interior and exterior elements, noise and vibration insulation, floor and roof coverings.

Seven local enterprises participate in the program: Uz Tong Heong, YAPP, Uz Auto Austem, Avtooyna, Uz Koram, Uz Dong Yang, and Uz Hanwoo.

In 2025, local components worth more than 50 billion soums were delivered to the assembly line. Thanks to this, the import component decreased by approximately 3,044 dollars per vehicle, and the cost price — by 1,040 dollars.

With a production of 20 thousand vehicles per year, the import substitution potential is estimated at approximately 60 million dollars.

The enterprise of the Chinese company JinTing Automobile Electric also began operations in Jizzakh. Here, 24 types of wiring harnesses for the Song Plus are produced. More than 100 jobs have been created, and the expected annual reduction in imports is estimated at approximately 7 million dollars.

In 2026, BYD Uzbekistan Factory plans to localize another 100 types of components: 40 for Song Plus, 22 for Chazor, and 38 for Yuan Up. In the second phase of the project, it is planned to additionally localize another 70 components for the Yuan Up.

From training in China to preparing engineers

Nearly 1,600 people work at the plant. At the same time, the number of Chinese specialists is gradually decreasing: while at the initial stage there were more than 150, now there are about 50.

Local employees undergo training in China. In 2024, 40 people completed such training, and in 2025 — 51. In 2026, it is planned to send another 60 employees for training.

In addition, BYD Uzbekistan Factory invested 10 billion soums in creating the infrastructure of the Higher School of Engineering "Industrial Engineering" at the Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute. The project provides for the training of specialists capable of working with modern industrial technologies.

Production using CKD and SKD technologies

Song Plus Champion DM-i and Chazor DM-i are produced using the full-cycle CKD technology.

Yuan Up in hybrid and fully electric versions is produced using the semi-knocked-down SKD assembly method.

International quality management standards are also being implemented at the enterprise. BYD Uzbekistan Factory is certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and became the first BYD plant outside of China to receive the Three-Star Factory certificate.

Thus, the plant in Jizzakh is gradually developing not only vehicle production but also the local component manufacturing chain, personnel training, and the introduction of modern industrial technologies.
