The development of artificial intelligence has the potential to trigger events that could lead to the deaths of one billion people. Microsoft founder Bill Gates announced this in an interview with NBC News.

"AI, without a doubt, has immense power. It is capable of managing processes that could cause the deaths of a billion people. Of course, achieving a 100 percent result is not easy. But if people with malicious intent use the most advanced AI tools, it could become an unprecedentedly dangerous weapon," he said.

Gates stated that self-regulation by companies working with AI is not enough. Therefore, governments must also participate in the process of controlling the development of the technology.

He called on the US government to pass relevant laws in this direction, as well as to involve law enforcement agencies and politicians in discussions on AI safety and control.

"This must be mandatory. These measures will require additional costs for the industry, but they will not hinder the work of companies," Gates added.
