Bill Gates proposes taxing AI because it puts people out of work

Bill Gates has proposed a tax on artificial intelligence (AI) due to the loss of jobs.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has expressed his concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) and published an article proposing the introduction of new taxes on AI that replaces workers.

"I think we should introduce a tax on AI tokens and robots. Currently, when an employer hires a person, they pay taxes on their income. But when they buy a robot, they can immediately write it off as a cost of production. The tax system is literally encouraging people to replace them with machines," he said.

According to the Microsoft founder, such a tax would somewhat slow down the rapid decline in human labor. It would also help people raise funds to improve their skills and strengthen social protection.

"The tax should not interfere with the beneficial aspects of AI, such as making medicine and education cheaper," Gates added.

Other big tech entrepreneurs have also been voicing their opinions on the future of AI recently. For example, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a detailed article on the future of the AI industry. Elon Musk also touched on the topic in an interview with The Economist editor-in-chief Zanni Minton Beddos.
