Attestation canceled, certificates to be renewed free of charge: new procedure for patent attorneys
By Government Resolution No. 542 of October 7, 2026, the Regulation on Patent Attorney Activity was approved.
According to it, the certificate of registration as a patent attorney will henceforth be issued by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional justice departments, and the Tashkent City Justice Department.
An individual who has obtained the certificate shall operate as a patent attorney on the territory of the republic. They are authorized to represent the interests of persons who have approached them on intellectual property matters.
At the same time, a patent attorney cannot provide representation in a specialty not specified in their certificate.
The training and professional development of patent attorneys will be carried out by the Institute for Retraining and Professional Development of Legal Personnel under the Ministry of Justice or the Tashkent State University of Law. These processes will be organized in cooperation with the Association of Patent Attorneys.
The Register of Patent Attorneys will be published on the "Intellectual Property Protection" portal.
According to the resolution, the certificates of currently practicing patent attorneys will be reissued according to their current specialties by November 1. For this, passing an attestation is not required, and no state duty or other fees will be charged. They will be entered into the State Register of Patent Attorneys.
