In the current academic year, applicants who successfully pass entrance examinations to public higher education institutions in Uzbekistan will be given the opportunity to choose a sixth field of study. This was announced at a press conference in Tashkent by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Sardor Rajabov.

A ministry representative clarified that the additional field of study will be selectable from among those with available places and that correspond to the subject set selected by the applicant during the exams.

"The sixth field is planned to open next week. You will be able to choose a field of study where there are remaining vacancies and that correspond to your chosen subject set," the deputy minister stated.

Starting in the 2024/25 academic year, entrance examinations to public universities in Uzbekistan will be conducted according to the "test first, then choice" principle. Applicants pre-select a set of subjects, language of instruction, and region for the exam. Those who successfully pass the exam have 15 days to choose up to five universities and study programs corresponding to the set of subjects and language of instruction they passed. This number is now planned to be increased to six.

At the same press conference, it was announced that 677,900 applicants registered online for undergraduate programs at universities this academic year.

Based on the final competition, 209,100 applicants were recommended for admission to undergraduate programs. Of these, 52,800 received places through a state grant, and 156,300 through a fee-paying contract. Additionally, 20,500 applicants were recommended for admission under certain admissions criteria, based on established benefits.

The most interesting educational areas were "General Medicine", "Economics" and "Philology and Language Teaching: English".
