Apple Maps changes Lake Ontario to Lake America after Trump order

Apple Maps has relabeled Lake Ontario as "Lake America" within its mapping application, a change prompted by an executive order from US President Donald Trump amid an ongoing trade dispute with Canada.
This alteration is visible to users in the United States, while individuals in Canada will still see the body of water identified as Lake Ontario. The BBC has reached out to Apple for a statement regarding this modification.
The iPhone manufacturer's decision comes after President Trump issued an executive order to rename the lake. This order followed the breakdown of trade negotiations between the two neighboring nations late last month, which resulted in Washington imposing new 50% tariffs on Canadian goods valued at $20 billion (£14.8 billion; C$28 billion).
In recent days, Google implemented a similar name change for its US users, which generated considerable criticism on social media platforms.
Canada has retaliated against Washington's tariffs, announcing its intention to impose "dollar for dollar" counter-tariffs.
Prime Minister Mark Carney's office withdrew from the trade discussions, citing what it described as unacceptable demands. Carney has voiced disapproval of Washington's negotiation tactics, stating that productive discussions can resume once the US begins "being serious."
For US users of the Apple Maps app, Lake Ontario is now displayed as 'Lake America'.
