Another Chinese-made robot breaks Usain Bolt's world record

Another robot created in China has broken Usain Bolt's world record.

At the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, China's Tiangong Ultra robot set a new record by covering the 100 meters in 8.86 seconds. This result is 0.72 seconds faster than the world record of 9.58 seconds set by track and field legend Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

Developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center, the robot crossed the finish line first in the semi-finals of the competition. It is worth noting that the robot also broke the record in the qualifying round of the tournament by covering 100 meters in 9.39 seconds.

The pace of technical development of robots amazes spectators and experts. Because the Tiangong robot covered the same distance in 21.50 seconds in the first tournament held last year. Its speed has doubled in a year.

However, stopping the robots' high speed remains a problem. After crossing the finish line, Tiangong Ultra crashed into a special mat installed to stop it instead of slowing down. The force of the impact caused a small fire in the robot's body. In another semi-final race, one of the competing robots broke into pieces mid-race.

Organizers say the Tiangong robot has managed to break four world records set by humans. In addition to the 100 meters, it has covered the 400 meters in 38.15 seconds, the 1,500 meters in 2 minutes 21.64 seconds, and jumped 2.88 meters.

More than 2,000 robots from 16 countries are competing in 51 disciplines, including football, dance, track and field, and industrial tasks, in Beijing. The Chinese government has declared humanoid robotics a strategic industry, and plans to widely use these technologies in manufacturing, logistics, and service sectors in the future.

Earlier, a humanoid robot named "Lightning" created by Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor ran 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, breaking the world record held by legendary Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt.
