An unusual crime: how did a clever thief steal a scooter?

The crime of vehicle theft can be committed without even touching the vehicle itself. A dangerous recidivist living in the city of Tashkent demonstrated this in practice: the 52-year-old man stole a motor scooter left unattended on the street in an unusual way.

An unusual crime: how did a clever man steal a motor scooter?

In Tashkent, a man who stole a motor scooter parked on the street has been criminally prosecuted.

According to the court verdict, F.N., born in 1974, took a motor scooter parked in front of a house in the Chilanzar district. The vehicle belonged to a management service company.

The man, who had been previously convicted 6 times and was a dangerous recidivist, committed the crime in an unusual way. He went up to the motor scooter and saved its geolocation in his Telegram "Saved Messages" section. Then he left the area.

Along the way, he looked through advertisements at bus stops and on the streets, found a tow truck service, and called them.

"I have a three-wheeled scooter in front of building 16 in the 19th quarter of Chilanzar district, please take it to the old TashMI area, I will receive it myself," the man told the tow truck driver.

The driver said the service fee would be 300,000 soums, while F.N. stated he would pay 250,000 soums. Once the deal was struck, F.N. sent the geolocation of the motor scooter's location to the tow truck driver.

An hour later, the driver called and said he had arrived at the address. F.N. told him to load the motor scooter and bring it, saying that he was at the market and would meet him near the fruit stall by the roadside near "Old TashMI" after he finished shopping.

Thus, the tow truck driver loaded the motor scooter and arrived at the specified address. F.N. told him that he would arrive shortly and asked for his bank card number to transfer the money. Then, he transferred the money to the bank card provided by the driver using a PayNet terminal on the street and said, "if I don't make it in time, just unload the scooter there and leave."

Having received the service fee, the tow truck driver unloaded the motor scooter at the specified address and left. F.N., without approaching the motor scooter, decided to watch it for 2-3 days. He planned to hand it over for scrap metal and spend the money on his own needs if no one touched it.

Two days later, F.N. went to check on the "prey" and saw that the motor scooter was not there. This was because the management service company had reported the vehicle stolen to "102", and the motor scooter had been found at the location where the tow truck had left it.

By court verdict, F.N. was found guilty of committing the crime stipulated in Article 267, Part 2, Paragraph "g" of the Criminal Code (theft of a vehicle by means of larceny or robbery for the purpose of misappropriation). Applying Article 57 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment.
