An unusual event occurred at the Chess Olympiad: a representative of the Marshall Islands was defeated in 4 moves

An extraordinary event was recorded in the 5th round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which is ongoing in Samarkand. Abon Arelong, a member of the Marshall Islands national team, started the game with the white pieces on board 3, but was checkmated after just 4 moves in his match against Central African Republic chess player Francois Gamba.

In the game, Gamba, playing with the black pieces, made the queen move – Qf2 on the fourth move and concluded the match. Thus, the Central African Republic team won this match with a score of 3.5:0.5.

Abon Arelong is also the vice-president of the Marshall Islands Chess Federation.

For information, the Marshall Islands national team is participating in the Chess Olympiad for the first time. None of the chess players in the team have a FIDE rating or an international title.

According to another piece of information, a total of 400 teams are participating in the 46th World Chess Olympiad hosted by Samarkand: 208 teams in the men's group and 192 teams in the women's group. The competition will continue until September 28.
