An implant has been created in Uzbekistan that helps treat heart valves without replacing them

A local implant has been created in Uzbekistan that does not require heart valve replacement, but helps restore it. This was reported by the Agency for Innovative Development.
This implant was developed by a scientific team led by Feruz Turayev, a senior researcher at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Surgery Center named after Academician V.Vohidov.
This implant, called "Flexible BAND", strengthens the ring around the heart valve and restores its function. As a result, in some cases, instead of completely replacing the damaged valve, the patient has the opportunity to preserve and surgically restore his own valve.
The first batch of the implant has been manufactured and introduced into clinical practice. So far, more than 100 patients have successfully undergone reconstructive operations aimed at preserving the heart valve using this technology.
According to the report, "The technology is also being used in cardiology centers in Andijan, Fergana, Jizzakh and Khorezm regions."
According to the project leader Feruz Turayev, most of the support rings and implants used in such operations were previously imported from the USA and Russia. This local implant is distinguished by its low cost compared to foreign analogues and its adaptation to the conditions of medical practice in Uzbekistan.
According to calculations, the use of a local implant made it possible to reduce the costs of purchasing foreign prostheses and rings by 3-5 times.
Within the framework of the project, the protocol for performing artificial blood circulation in mitral valve plasty was also improved, and recommendations were developed to optimize anesthetic approaches during the operation.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbek scientists had created an ultra-light material designed to purify air and water. The aerogel developed by scientists of the Academy of Sciences has the ability to absorb harmful gases in the air and pollutants in water.
