Almost half of divorces in Uzbekistan involve childless couples
Uzbekistan registered 24,800 divorces in the first half of 2026, an increase of 1,500 cases compared to the same period last year, according to official statistics. The divorce rate stood at 1.3 per 1,000 people.
In Uzbekistan, nearly half of all divorces involve couples who do not have children.
Out of 24,800 total divorces, 14,900 (60.1%) were recorded in urban centers, while 9,900 (39.9%) took place in rural areas.
Statistics for the second quarter of 2026 reveal that childless couples accounted for 48.1% of all divorces, a rise of 2.9 percentage points from the 45.2% observed in the first quarter.
Since the start of 2025, approximately half of all divorces each quarter have consistently been among childless families.
Regionally, Tashkent city, Tashkent region, and Samarkand region reported the highest divorce rates, whereas Syrdarya region, Navoi region, and Jizzakh region registered the lowest figures.
These statistics highlight a continuing trend of higher divorce rates in urban settings, with a substantial proportion of marital dissolutions occurring in families without children.
