Uzbekistan records fewer marriages and more divorces in first half of 2026
Uzbekistan registered fewer marriages and more divorces during the first six months of 2026, extending the negative trend that has persisted in recent years, according to the National Statistics Committee.
Uzbekistan experienced a decline in marriages and a rise in divorces during the first six months of 2026.
From January through June, civil registry offices nationwide documented 92,300 marriages and 24,800 divorces. This represents a decrease of 3,000 marriages and an increase of 1,500 divorces when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The nation's marriage rate for this period was 4.9 per 1,000 residents. Of the total marriages registered, 47,200 (51.1%) occurred in urban settings, while 45,100 (48.9%) were recorded in rural regions.
Concurrently, the national divorce rate stood at 1.3 per 1,000 people. Urban areas accounted for 14,900 divorces, making up 60.1% of the total, with rural areas registering 9,900 divorces, or 39.9%.
These recent statistics align with an ongoing downward trajectory in marriage registrations. In 2025, Uzbekistan recorded 267,100 marriages, a reduction of 4,700 from 2024. The annual number of marriages has been decreasing consistently since 2021.
Conversely, the number of divorces reached 46,900 in 2025, an increase of 1,800 from the prior year, indicating a sustained rise in marital dissolutions across the country.
