Diplomatic relations between Algeria and the UAE have grown tense in recent years.
Algeria is cutting diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates after what it described as "provocative or hostile" acts by the Gulf state, the foreign ministry said.
"Algeria spared no effort to draw the Emirati side and warned it of the dire consequences that could result from its regrettable and unjustified behaviour," it said.
The statement gave no specifics on why Algeria has taken this move, but ties between the two countries have deteriorated in recent years amid a series of regional disputes.
There has been no direct reaction from the UAE, but the president's diplomatic adviser said relations are not built on "riddles and signals that require decoding".
"Diplomatic relations are managed through rationality, communication and clarity of interests", Anwar Gargash wrote on X.
Although he did not name Algeria in his post, he said effective diplomacy depended on understanding and managing interests and differences.
"Ambiguity is not a policy, and noise does not compensate for the absence of vision," Gargash added.
The Algerian foreign ministry's statement - circulated by state media - said the UAE's conduct had reached a level that could no longer be accepted, and that it had "exhausted all means of preserving bilateral relations".
It added that the UAE ambassador was summoned to the ministry, where he was informed of the decision and told he had 48 hours to comply.
Relations between the two countries have become increasingly strained in recent years because of their opposing stances on several regional issues.
Algeria opposes the normalisation of diplomatic relations with Israel, which the UAE and Morocco - Algeria's neighbour and rival - have established under the US-brokered Abraham Accords.
The UAE also backs Morocco's claim to Western Sahara in a decades-long dispute over sovereignty, while Algeria supports the Polisario Front, an armed group seeking an independent state there for the Sahrawi people.
