The third meeting of the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) took place in Astana, following which the parties signed a joint declaration on strengthening the fight against transnational crime. This is reported by Central Asian media and Turkish news outlets.
The discussions focused on the joint search for fugitive criminals, countering cyber threats, illegal gambling, extremism, and transnational criminal groups. The ministers paid special attention to the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking(!).
As part of the integration processes, Turkey proposed the creation of a specialized law enforcement agency, "TURKPOL," similar to Europol. The new structure is to be formed on the basis of the planned OTS Council on Combating Crime, reports the publication asia-today.news.
Fight against crime: the ministers of internal affairs discussed countering cybercrime, terrorism, extremism, illegal migration, and human trafficking(!), and also reviewed a draft agreement on the creation of a specialized Council on Combating Crime.
Bilateral agreements: Kazakhstan and Turkey signed an official agreement on the readmission of persons, which defines the procedure for returning individuals who do not have legal grounds for staying in the country.
On the sidelines of the summit, the heads of the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan signed a cooperation agreement in the field of combating crime.
Following the meeting, the participants signed a communiqué.
In the future: the next, fourth meeting of the ministers of internal affairs of the OTS countries is scheduled for 2027 in Turkey.
One can only hope that crime worldwide will also agree to take a pause until 2027 and wait while Turkey prepares new forms for the next agreements and they decide where and when they will drink their next diplomatic coffee.
