A regional program on climate-resilient landscapes in Central Asia is being developed
The regional program "Climate-resilient Landscapes in Central Asia" (CLiCA), planned to be implemented in Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan, is currently under preparation.
This program is being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with national partner organizations in order to attract financial support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). It is aimed at increasing the resilience of the agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) sectors to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In Uzbekistan, the work within the framework of the program is envisaged to cover, in particular, the territories of the Fergana Valley and Surxondaryo Region. The program envisages using climate data in land resource planning and investment attraction processes, introducing sustainable agricultural practices, restoring pastures and forests, expanding climate financing opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses in rural areas, and increasing the capacity of government organizations and land users.
The program will also contribute to strengthening transboundary cooperation, knowledge and experience exchange, and coordinating regional investments. The program is planned to be implemented by GIZ in cooperation with sectoral organizations in the three countries. The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan will participate as the national partner organization for implementation in Uzbekistan.
The program is expected to be funded by the Green Climate Fund, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and contributions from the participating countries.
