A new bridge connecting two mahallas in the Sergeli district, Zhunaryk and Yukori Darkhon, has opened in Tashkent. The completion of construction is timed to coincide with Independence Day and the start of the new school year.

According to the capital's mayor's office press service, local residents, including schoolchildren, were previously forced to cross the canal through pipes, posing a serious safety threat.

The problem gained public attention in March of this year, when videos appeared on social media showing first-graders and other students from the Zhunaryk mahalla crossing the canal through narrow pipes over water on their way to school. The lack of a safe crossing raised concerns among the public.

A full-fledged bridge, 28 meters long and 8 meters wide, has now been erected in place of the former dangerous crossing. It is designed to withstand a load of up to 80 tons and ensures safe passage for both vehicles and pedestrians.

It is noted that from 2017 to 2025, 143 trillion soums were allocated from the state budget for the development of social and industrial infrastructure in Uzbekistan. These funds allowed for the construction and reconstruction of, among other things, 2,000 kilometers of public roads, as well as bridges and overpasses.
