A man in the Navoi region was sentenced to five years in prison for selling marijuana.

A verdict has been handed down in the Navoi Region in a marijuana trafficking case involving two men. One was sentenced to five years in prison for selling drugs, and the other to one year of restricted freedom for possession.
According to the Tomdinsky District Court, on April 29, one of the defendants sold two bags of marijuana, weighing a total of 2.62 grams, to an acquaintance for 350,000 soums. The next day, the buyer contacted law enforcement, reporting the transaction. A controlled buy was subsequently arranged. The men agreed to sell three bags of marijuana for 450,000 soums, to which the buyer added 50,000 soums to cover a previously incurred debt.
When the drugs were handed over, the seller was given 500,000 soums, specially marked. After handing over the two bags, he was detained by law enforcement.
The court found the seller guilty under Part 2 of Article 273 of the old Criminal Code and sentenced him to five years' imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.
The buyer, who purchased the drug for personal use, was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to one year of restricted freedom.
During this period, he is prohibited from leaving his place of residence, except for commuting to and from work. He is also prohibited from changing his place of residence or leaving the Navoi region without permission.
The court took into account the guilty pleas and remorse of both defendants, as well as their lack of criminal records. They were not ordered to undergo compulsory drug addiction treatment. The seized narcotics, weighing 2.56 and 1.91 grams, are subject to destruction.
