A Jizzakh resident was sentenced to four years of restricted freedom for distributing extremist videos on Telegram. He is prohibited from using the internet or leaving the region.

The investigation began after the man posted a video to his Stories in April 2025, accessible to subscribers. An expert examination deemed the video extremist. During subsequent investigations, additional files related to the activities of the organization "Tavhid va Jihod Katibasi," banned in Uzbekistan, were discovered on his phone. These included materials calling for the establishment of a caliphate. The investigation established that the defendant was a member of dozens of thematic groups and actively distributed prohibited content to other users.

At the court hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. He claimed he was unaware of the illegal nature of the files, and that some of them were saved on his device automatically after viewing them.

Considering that the defendant had no prior criminal record, had positive references at his place of residence, and was supporting a young family, the court applied Article 57 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and imposed a non-custodial sentence.

The defendant will serve four years of restricted freedom at his place of residence under the supervision of the probation service. During this period, he is prohibited from changing his place of residence, traveling outside the region, or using the internet. The confiscated smartphone is to be destroyed, and his messenger profile is to be blocked.
