In the Astrakhan region, a citizen of Uzbekistan wanted in connection with a case of engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 16 was detained. The man attempted to leave Russia through the Karaozek border checkpoint. He is now awaiting extradition to Uzbekistan, the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported.
According to the agency, the detainee is 22 years old. In March, the investigative authorities of Uzbekistan opened a criminal case against him. A court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest in absentia.
Police officers established that the man was in Russia illegally. For several months, he worked at a construction site in the Volgograd region. For violating migration rules, he was brought to administrative liability.
Following the detention, Russian law enforcement officers notified their colleagues from the Andijan region. The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center, where he will await a decision on his extradition.
