A bill to replace 7 words in documents with Uzbek equivalents has been sent to the Senate

The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis adopted a law on the replacement of some terms borrowed from foreign languages in legislative documents with Uzbek equivalents in the second and third readings and sent it to the Senate.

On June 9, deputies adopted the law in the first reading and sent it for improvement for consideration in the second reading.

According to the draft law, it was proposed to replace the following foreign words with their Uzbek equivalents:

* **marking** – **tamg‘alash**

* **parol** – **oron**

* **marshrut** – **junalish**

Deputy Barno Berdiyeva introduced the law to the participants of the session in the second reading. According to her, during the preparation for the second reading, a number of amendments and additions were made to it without changing the concept of the draft. In particular, the current legislative documents were completely revised.

Within the framework of the draft law, the term “marking” used in the Tax Code, the laws “On Foreign Economic Activity”, “On Precious Metals and Gemstones” and “On Telecommunications” has been replaced with the word “branding”. The term “password” in Article 776 of the Civil Code has been replaced with the word “oron”.

“The word “marking” in Part 69 of Article 483 of the Tax Code has been replaced with the combination “branding signs”. "It was taken into account that the relevant provision in the current legislation applies specifically to the use of trademarks," Berdiyeva said.

Also, the term "route" in the Code of Administrative Responsibility was changed to the term "route". In this regard, the combination of "route taxis" in the code was adapted to the terms used in the current legislation and was expressed in the form of "route taxis".

The deputy noted that the text of the draft law was agreed with the initiators, and positive conclusions were received from the legal department of the Legislative Chamber's office and the linguistic expertise, translation and editorial departments. The document was also considered and supported by the factions of all political parties in parliament.

The law was adopted in the second and third readings and sent to the Senate.

It is worth noting that in July 2025, the Government Commission on Terms adopted from different languages approved new Uzbek translations of 40 words. Among them are translations for all seven of the words listed above. Education expert Komil Jalilov also commented that among the proposed alternatives, there are controversial ones, such as "yolchiroq".
