Uzbekistan Passes Bill Banning Illegal Use of Uniforms

Uzbekistan's parliament has passed a bill in its second reading establishing administrative liability for wearing or producing confusingly similar official uniforms.

Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis Legislative Chamber has approved, in its second reading, a proposed law designed to curb the unauthorized use of official state uniforms.

The legislation introduces revisions to the Code of Administrative Responsibility. These amendments will establish administrative penalties for individuals who wear or produce uniforms that bear a confusing resemblance to official military or departmental attire, or that incorporate their distinctive markings or insignia.

During the session, it was highlighted that these new regulations aim to safeguard citizens' rights and legitimate interests, while also bolstering public confidence in government institutions.

Prior to the second reading, the bill's provisions underwent a thorough review involving the relevant committee, members of parliament, and experts from various ministries and departments. The document's text was subsequently refined to incorporate the suggestions made during these discussions.

Proponents of the law assert that its enactment will bring clarity to the use of official uniforms, deter their illicit wear or manufacture, and guarantee that those who commit such offenses will face accountability.

Following extensive deliberation, the deputies voted to pass the draft law in its second reading.
