A 5 km BRT express bus lane to be built in Nukus

In Nukus, a dedicated lane for BRT express bus transit with a length of 5 kilometers is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2027.

The project is outlined in the strategy for the development of local passenger transport until 2030, presented in a draft decree of the President of Uzbekistan.

The dedicated lane is planned to be built on a section of E. Alakuz Street with high passenger flow, from its intersection with Qoraqalpog'iston Street to its intersection with the Chimboy Highway. To implement the project, it is necessary to develop a transport model, technical solutions, and design-and-estimate documentation.

It is envisaged to attract grants from international financial institutions for funding. The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Ministry of Transport have been designated as responsible for the project's implementation.

Six transport hubs to be created in Uzbekistan

The draft strategy provides for the creation of six transport hubs integrating railway stations, airports, and bus terminals. They are planned to be located in the cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench, Nukus, and Fergana.

According to the plan, one transport hub is to be commissioned in 2027, three in 2028, and four in 2029. By 2030, the creation of all six facilities is planned to be completed. Construction work is envisaged to be financed through funds from entrepreneurs and the state budget.

Share of electric buses to reach 30 percent

Another goal of the strategy is to increase the share of electric buses in public transport in Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers from 15 percent in 2025 to 30 percent by 2030.

Intermediate target indicators are set at 16 percent in 2026, 20 percent in 2027, 22 percent in 2028, and 25 percent in 2029. To achieve these targets, it is planned to assess the need for electric buses and charging infrastructure, as well as to approve a specific targeted procurement plan.

The document also notes that master plans for the development of transport and road-transport infrastructure have been developed for Nukus, Tashkent, and all regional centers.

Among the expected results of the strategy's implementation are the expansion of the network of transport corridors with dedicated BRT lanes and the introduction of intelligent transport systems.
