$9.3 billion in remittances from abroad to Uzbekistan in half a year

Uzbekistan received $9.3 billion in remittances from abroad in the first six months of this year. This figure increased by 13% in January-June 2026, the Central Bank's press service reported.
The increase in remittances was due to stable wages of migrant workers abroad and the appreciation of the currencies of some countries. In addition, Uzbeks began to travel more often to work not only in traditional directions, but also in other countries in Europe and Asia.
Transfers by phone, that is, card-to-card (P2P), are prevailing in remittances. Such online transfers increased by 32% to $4.8 billion. This accounts for 51.7% of the total remittances received in Uzbekistan. At the same time, remittances from Uzbekistan also increased by 8 percent to $1.3 billion.
There was also activity in the purchase and sale of foreign currency. Over the six months, the population sold $12.3 billion to banks, while buying $6.8 billion from banks. This shows that the population preferred to sell dollars to banks rather than buy them, the difference being $5.5 billion.
It should be recalled that Uzbekistan introduced a procedure for withdrawing cash currency from banks without a passport of up to $500. Previously, this limit was $100.
