53 red cards shown in a single match in Brazil
In the Minas Gerais state of Brazil, a world record was set when 53 red cards were issued during a 2nd division championship semi-final match between Uberlândia and Mamoré.
In the 54th minute of the match, after scoring a goal, Mamoré player Davi made provocative gestures and insulted the Uberlândia players, sparking a mass brawl.
Following the incident, referee Fernando Patrick sent off 21 players from Mamoré and 22 players from Uberlândia. In addition, eight coaches and two managers from each side received red cards — a total of 53 people.
The referee then decided to stop the match with the score at 3-1 in favor of Mamoré. In the match report, he noted that the game could no longer be continued. Patrick also stated that a police report had been filed regarding threats made against him by Uberlândia's manager.
This match set a record as the game with the most red cards shown in world football. The previous record was 36 red cards, set on February 27, 2011, in a fifth-division Argentine league match between Atlético Claypole and Victoriano Arenas.
