Football: Madrid and French derbies, Messi's historic goal
On September 20, a number of important matches were played in world football. Atletico defeated ten-man Real in the Madrid derby, Manchester City won a match in which eight goals were scored, and PSG prevailed over Marseille in the French Classique. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi scored the 75th free-kick goal of his career for Inter Miami.

One of the main matches of the day took place in the Spanish championship. "Atletico" defeated "Real" 2:1 on their home turf.
The first half ended goalless, but the match intensified after the break. After "Real" defender Dean Huijsen fouled Giuliano Simeone in the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty and sent the player off.
Alejandro Grimaldo converted the penalty in the 53rd minute to put the hosts ahead. Six minutes later, Jonathan David made it 2:0 following an assist from Giuliano Simeone.
Antonio Rüdiger gave "Real" hope by scoring a header in the 89th minute. However, Jose Mourinho's team could not salvage a draw in the remaining minutes.
Following the victory, "Atletico" rose to second place in La Liga with 16 points. The team trails leaders "Barcelona" by five points. "Real" dropped to the position below their city rivals with 15 points.
After the match, Mourinho expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing, stating that some "Atletico" players should have received red cards for rough play. "Atletico" head coach Diego Simeone, meanwhile, called for controversial situations to be discussed with respect.
In the English Premier League, the match between "Manchester City" and "Sunderland" became the highest-scoring game of the day. The match at the "Etihad" stadium ended with a 5:3 victory for the hosts.
Enzo Fernández celebrated his first goal for "Manchester City" by scoring directly from a free kick in the 9th minute. Three minutes later, Brian Brobbey equalized. Rayan Cherki put the hosts ahead again, but Brobbey scored his second goal to bring "Sunderland" back into the game.
At the end of the first half, Antoine Semenyo scored "City's" third goal. He found the net again after the break to secure a brace. Although Brobbey scored his third goal to complete a hat-trick, Erling Haaland sealed the victory for the hosts at the end of the match.
Brobbey became the first player to score a hat-trick for "Sunderland" in the Premier League since Jermain Defoe in 2016. However, his three goals did not bring any points to the team.
"Manchester City" strengthened their lead at the top of the table by winning all five of their matches in the championship. The team led by Enzo Maresca secured their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions.
