Asked for $500,000 to "hush up" a complaint — 72-year-old man who committed extortion in Bukhara sentenced to 8 years in prison

A person who committed extortion against a businessman from Bukhara has been held criminally liable.

According to the court verdict, 72-year-old H.Yu., living in the city of Tashkent, introduced himself to the head of an LLC in Bukhara as a "responsible officer of the Presidential Administration."

H.Yu. intimidated the businessman by claiming that the administration had ordered an investigation into the activities of the company he led, and that there was information indicating that the credit funds allocated to the company had been misappropriated. He stated that as a result of the investigation, the businessman could lose all his property.

He then demanded $500,000 from the businessman, promising to "hush up" the matter. He was caught during an operational event while receiving an advance payment of 10 million UZS transferred to his bank card.

In court, H.Yu. did not plead guilty and stated that he had not asked for half a million dollars from the businessman.

"In October 2025, I found the phone number of the head of an LLC through social networks. Then I also found the phone number of the chief accountant of this company, E., called her, and told her that I worked at the Presidential Administration and that the head of the company should call me.

On the same day, the head of the company called me. I told him that I worked at the administration, that a complaint had been received against the company, and that for this reason I would go to Bukhara myself to meet him.

2 days later, I went to the city of Bukhara. The head of the LLC met me at the railway station in Kagan. We went to his office in the city of Bukhara together. During the conversation, I told them that a complaint regarding the LLC's activities had been received by the administration, that they had taken a $40 million loan and showed non-existent items during an inspection, that the factory was currently not operating, and I advised them to fix the deficiencies in the documents.

At that time, the chief accountant and the lawyer of the company came up to me. They asked me for a document confirming that I was a responsible officer of the Presidential Administration. After that, the head of the LLC wrote down my personal information and dropped me off at the railway station."

Thus, H.Yu. returned to the city of Tashkent. A few days later, the head of the LLC called him.
