Uzbekistan weather service forecasts slight relief as extreme August heatwaves ease

Uzbekistan's weather service, Uzhydromet, anticipates a minor reprieve from the intense August heatwaves that characterized the recent weekend.

Daytime temperatures during the current work week are expected to range from +32°C to +38°C. The far southern regions will be an exception, with temperatures reaching +40°C to +43°C on Monday afternoon before settling to a slightly lower +38°C to +40°C from August 4 to 7.

The nation will generally experience dry conditions with light, shifting cloud cover. Nevertheless, isolated showers and brief thunderstorms are possible in mountainous areas and parts of the Fergana Valley on August 4. Consequently, authorities have issued a warning about potential flash floods and mudflows in the foothill and mountainous areas of Tashkent Province and the Fergana Valley due to these localized weather events.

Additionally, from August 3 to 5, certain districts may experience strong winds, reaching 13 to 18 meters per second, which could lead to localized dust storms.

Tashkent, the capital, is forecast to have dry weather throughout the week. Daytime temperatures will be between +35°C and +38°C on August 3 and from August 6–7, and a more comfortable +33°C to +35°C on August 4 and 5. Overnight lows in Tashkent will remain between +20°C and +23°C. Easterly winds will blow at 3 to 8 meters per second, occasionally strengthening to 10–12 meters per second, and peaking at 12–15 meters per second on August 4, potentially causing brief dust storms in some areas.
