In the context of Central Asian nations, Turkmenistan holds the fourth spot globally, with 576 prisoners per 100,000 people. Kazakhstan is ranked 103rd with 163 prisoners, followed by Tajikistan at 112th with 145, Kyrgyzstan at 145th with 112, and Uzbekistan at 166th with 85.

In other parts of the region, Armenia is ranked 167th with 83 prisoners per 100,000 people, Georgia is 41st with 285, Azerbaijan is 50th with 264, Russia is 35th with 300, Turkey is 10th with 468, and Ukraine is 138th with 116.

El Salvador has the highest incarceration rate in the world, with 1,659 prisoners per 100,000 people, followed by Cuba at 794, Rwanda at 620, Turkmenistan at 576, and the United States at 542.

The lowest incarceration rates are found in Yemen with 14 prisoners per 100,000 people, Somalia with 16, and Liechtenstein with 20.
