Uzbekistan Journalists’ Union launches dedicated council to support bloggers

The Uzbekistan Journalists' Union unveiled its new Bloggers Creative Council at an event on Friday.

Shukhratjon Oripov, the Journalists' Union Chairman, highlighted the significant role digital creators now hold alongside traditional media in influencing public opinion and the swift spread of information. He stated that the council's objectives include bringing together independent commentators, facilitating open communication between content creators and governmental or public bodies, and enhancing professional benchmarks within the digital sphere.

A primary function of this new group will be to safeguard its members' interests. The council will offer legal advice and support to bloggers encountering limitations on data access, pressure from institutions, or direct threats.

Eldar Asanov, a linguist, journalist, and well-known blogger, was chosen to lead the new organization.

The council intends to organize various workshops, seminars, and training sessions in the future. These programs will cover topics such as media literacy, legal and ethical guidelines, and digital security. Representatives from the Journalists' Union characterized this initiative as a crucial move towards encouraging responsible media consumption, aiding the professional advancement of digital journalists, and creating an environment for productive discussion.
