Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Mukhiddin Umidov, a student at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, has been selected to join the second cohort of the Impact Team 2050 international youth council under the Rosatom State Corporation. The official ceremony for the new council members took place during the Obninsk NEW 2026 International Youth Nuclear Forum.
The newly appointed members had the opportunity to meet with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, where they discussed the advancement of international youth collaboration and initiatives to broaden support for the peaceful application of nuclear technology.
Likhachev emphasized that the main objective for the new Impact Team 2050 cohort is to establish the agenda for international youth discussions on peaceful nuclear energy. He pointed out that each member has already shown leadership capabilities in their home countries and is now expected to leverage this experience for collaborative projects in science, education, and international partnerships.
In the upcoming months, the council members will facilitate national youth dialogues aimed at understanding why young professionals opt for different career paths, despite the modern and environmentally friendly nature of the nuclear sector.
The results of these discussions are set to be presented at the COP31 conference in Antalya, where the council will convene for its second meeting with the head of Rosatom. Additionally, the new cohort will create the youth program for Nuclear Day at COP31 and will visit the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.
The second cohort of Impact Team 2050 was chosen through an international competition, receiving 207 applications from 58 countries. Ultimately, 13 representatives from 13 nations were selected: Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Indonesia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Rwanda, Serbia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan.
The members come from diverse areas of youth leadership, including scientific research, professional roles in the nuclear sector, management of youth organizations, educational initiatives, and international public engagement.
Established in 2021, the Impact Team 2050 council serves as a youth advisory group under the Director General of Rosatom, aiming to develop proposals that enhance the visibility and appeal of nuclear technologies among young people in Rosatom's partner nations.
The first cohort of the council, which operated from 2022 to 2026, included representatives from eight different countries.
