Uzbekistan Bill Expands Intellectual Property Commerce

Uzbekistan's Legislative Chamber has advanced a new bill in its first reading, designed to boost the commercialization of intellectual property, enhance the standard of related public services, and extend the authority of patent attorneys.

The proposed legislation seeks to clarify the legal framework surrounding the termination of intellectual property rights and to decrease their valuation when utilized as collateral. Furthermore, the bill would empower patent attorneys to represent clients in intellectual property disputes through contractual agreements.

A key provision of the bill introduces the option to file intellectual property registration applications via public service centers. Proponents of the bill state that this measure will streamline the registration process, making it more accessible for individuals and businesses alike.
