US Senator McConnell discharged from rehab centre and returning home
"I'll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Senator Mitch McConnell of the United States has been released from a rehabilitation facility and will carry on his recovery at home, he announced in a statement issued on Thursday.
The 84-year-old Republican from Kentucky was hospitalized in mid-June following a fall and a "mild case of pneumonia." He transferred to the rehabilitation center last month, stating he was not "medically cleared" to resume his duties in the Senate.
From home, he plans to "maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy" and will "continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business," he stated on Thursday.
McConnell's absence has fueled continuous speculation regarding his health and his future in the chamber, where he served as a significant power broker for decades.
"Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I've received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff," McConnell expressed.
