US congressman refuses to drop reelection bid over ex-wife's abuse claims
Ohio Republican Max Miller, who is fighting for his political life, told CNN: "I'm never going to back down."
A U.S. congressman is standing firm in his decision not to withdraw from his reelection campaign, despite facing accusations of abuse from his former wife and her father, a U.S. senator.
Ohio Republican Max Miller, whose political future is currently in jeopardy, declared to CNN, "I'm never going to back down." This statement follows a call from President Donald Trump, who, a day prior, expressed concerns to Miller, a former White House aide, regarding his prospects of winning in November.
Miller refutes claims of abusing his ex-wife and child, as well as allegations of illegal drug use.
According to court documents and police reports obtained by news organizations including CBS, a U.S. affiliate of the BBC, Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, has accused him of throwing her against a wall, pointing a gun at her head, and causing a fracture to their two-year-old daughter's collarbone.
During an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on Tuesday, Miller denied ever being physically abusive towards his daughter. He stated, "I've been a good legislator. All they're trying to do is create rumourmills without evidence."
Miller, who is campaigning for his third term in the November midterm elections, characterized Moreno's accusations as "baseless" and "destructive" in a video statement shared on X on Sunday.
