The three confederations are reportedly aiming for Infantino's removal and have devised various strategies should he opt to run in the FIFA presidential election slated for March. Among the potential actions being weighed is the creation of alternative competitions overseen by the confederations themselves. Furthermore, Infantino's detractors might boycott FIFA council meetings and decline to endorse the organization's resolutions.

The Times indicated that the escalating criticism directed at the FIFA chief was sparked by his suggestion to divest a portion of the World Cup's commercial rights to private investors, an initiative Infantino subsequently abandoned.
