The Uzbek satellite Samarkand-2028, launched on August 5 in collaboration with the Chinese company STAR.VISION, successfully transmitted its first image of the Earth's surface from orbit. The press service of Uzbekistan's space agency, Uzbekcosmos, reported that the photograph was received just a few hours after launch.
The image depicts Athens, the capital of Greece.
The satellite was launched on August 5 from China's Haiyang Space Center, located in the Yellow Sea. On the day of the launch, the official YouTube channel of Uzbekcosmos organized a live broadcast of the event.
Samarkand-2028 is equipped with an artificial intelligence module developed by Uzbekcosmos specialists.
Its function is to process hyperspectral data directly in orbit.
