The city of Samarkand will be expanded, the Samarkand district will be abolished

It is planned to add 17,226.5 hectares of land to the city of Samarkand. In order to optimize administrative-territorial management, it is also planned to abolish the Samarkand district and transfer 28,295 hectares of land to the Toyloq district.

The issue of expanding the city of Samarkand and liquidating the Samarkand district was considered at a plenary session of the Senate. At this session, the issue of changing the borders of the Akdaryo, Pastdargom, Toylok districts of the Samarkand region and the city of Samarkand was discussed.

It was noted that a draft Senate resolution was developed in order to expand the territory of the city of Samarkand, increase its investment and tourist attractiveness, diversify economic sectors, and develop high-tech industries and modern service sectors.

According to this draft, 17,226.5 hectares of land are planned to be added to the city of Samarkand. It is also planned to liquidate the Samarkand district and transfer 28,295 hectares of its land to the Toylok district in order to optimize administrative and territorial management.

In their speeches, the senators paid special attention to the socio-economic significance of this issue. In particular, it was noted that the city's population has reached 880 thousand, approaching the status of a "city with a population of one million", the establishment of small industrial zones, technoparks and high-tech enterprises on new land plots, the creation of thousands of new jobs in the service, tourism and construction sectors.

Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of preserving agricultural lands and ensuring ecological balance. It was noted that the categories of the 6,263 hectares of land being transferred will remain unchanged.

After discussions, the Senate adopted a corresponding resolution.
