Criminal Proceedings Initiated After Tashkent Construction Site Collapse
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) – Uzbekistan's Prosecutor General's Office has launched a criminal investigation subsequent to the partial collapse of an excavation pit at a hotel construction site located on Beruni Street in Tashkent's Almazar district. The incident resulted in one individual sustaining injuries and requiring hospitalization.
According to Khayot Shamsutdinov, the spokesperson for the Prosecutor General's Office, evidence suggests that officials from the company linked to the construction site may have committed offenses outlined in Article 257 of the Criminal Code, pertaining to violations of occupational safety regulations, and Article 192-11, concerning the abuse of authority by non-governmental organization officials.
Earlier video footage from the scene had indicated a potential casualty. However, the Tashkent City Administration had initially stated that no requests for medical aid had been received when the first reports emerged. The city administration also affirmed that all parties found to have contravened urban planning laws and construction codes would face accountability.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services confirmed that representatives from pertinent agencies and responsible personnel are actively working at the site. A thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the event is presently in progress.
As part of this investigation, experts are scrutinizing whether the construction activities align with approved project documentation, if urban planning and technical specifications were adhered to during excavation, and if occupational health and safety standards were properly implemented.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services has pledged to release further details once the investigation concludes.
