Excavation Edge Collapses at Construction Site in Tashkent
The edge of an excavation pit collapsed at a residential construction site in Tashkent, prompting an official investigation and emergency safety measures.

A section of an excavation pit gave way at a residential development situated on Beruni Street in Tashkent, near the Beruni metro station.
The collapse took place adjacent to a nine-story residential structure.
The Tashkent city administration has reported that Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov is personally overseeing the situation.
Under his directive, a specialized commission was swiftly formed, comprising representatives from the Emergency Situations Department, the Construction and Housing and Utilities Control Inspectorate, the prosecutor's office, the Almazar district administration, and other pertinent bodies.
Authorities are implementing immediate actions to mitigate public safety risks, secure the affected zone, and restrict entry. Experts are currently examining the site to ascertain the cause of the collapse and evaluate the integrity of the surrounding area, road surfaces, and utility infrastructure.
Social media accounts had circulated claims of potential injuries. However, the city administration stated that, as of the time of this report, no individuals had sought medical attention.
Upon completion of the investigation, the conduct of those accountable will undergo legal scrutiny. The city administration affirmed that any parties found to have contravened urban planning legislation or construction standards would face legal consequences.
The administration additionally called upon all entities within the construction industry to rigorously adhere to safety protocols and established building codes.
